Information about the Marion Community IntranetIs there a
specific sponsor for this site?
While the information on this site was garnered from a wide variety of
sources, there is no specific sponsor for the site. The site expenses are
absorbed by the Waddington family (owners of W&W Creations) as a
public service project. At the present time, there are no outside
sources of revenue - private or public - received as a result of this
particular site. We do not currently gather cookies nor do we accept
advertising (static or pop-ups). Businesses appearing on these pages have
not paid to be there. They have been placed their because they have either
a Marion address and/or phone number and have asked.
But I'm
seeing pop-up advertising when I visit your site!
As we stated above, there is absolutely no advertising associated with
this site at the present time. If you are seeing pop-up ads, chances are
you have inadvertently allowed what's known as spyware/adware onto your
computer. There is a free program named Ad
Aware that will effectively clean your computer for you.
Then
who pays for this site?
We do (our family). There are minimal costs involved if our personal time
is not factored into the equation.
Can I help defer your costs?
Yes, if you find this site useful and would like to make a donation (of
any amount), you can do so via PayPal
by using the e-mail address lynda@community.marion.ia.us
Why did you decide to put this site together?
Originally, it was viewed as a way to keep web design skills up-to-date.
We've also come to realize how important a hub for information has become
to Marion. Our community is beautiful, vibrant and a great place to
raise a family. It also lacks cohesion. We are separated by school
districts, by municipal boundaries and even by those community newcomers
who believe Marion to be only an extension of or bedroom community for
Cedar Rapids. It was and remains our hope that this site will act
as a hub and pull the community together.
Will we be seeing
more changes in the future?
Maybe! We are constantly adding information to the site or updating older
content. One thing being discussed is a resident-only, password-protected
area which would allow residents to share more personal information (i.e,
babysitting clubs, business/service reviews, classifieds, local-only
discussions).
Can area non-profits and civic groups still
have free web space?
Yes, they can! While we no longer offer pro-bono designing of the sites,
we do offer free space. For more information, send e-mail to webmaster@community.marion.ia.us.
