The Internet Writer's Address Book for Computer Book Publishers
Computer book publishers, much like academic publishers, are looking more
or less for technical writers. Those who want to approach these publishers
should approach with an idea and perhaps an outline and a few sample chapters.
There is no reason a writer should complete a manuscript, since most of the
more technical publishers have a certain way they like to have their
instructional material written.
It would probably be in a writer's best interest to pick up a catalog of
books published by the particular publisher in which he or she was interested.
Then find books which are similar and call the company to see which editor
worked on those particular volumes. After doing this, try to copy the
outward style and organization of the books (Did they use the Roman
system for numbering?) and send your ideas directly to that editor.
Be sure to include your market analysis.
